[av_dropcap1]M[/av_dropcap1]r. Lampert, are organic farming and mass production even compatible?

Werner Lampert: Of course, organic food isn’t for everyone. Nevertheless, it is my dream—and the driving force behind everything I do—to provide our population with organic quality. Everyone in our country should be able to eat as well as possible. And when it comes to that, there is simply no alternative to organic. That is why we want to be able to provide every Austrian with organic food.

[av_dropcap1]Y[/av_dropcap1]ou have developed your own quality label called “Prüf Nach!” How does it differ from other organic certification labels?

Lampert:“Check It Out!” is a further development of my holistic approach to organic food and sets “Back to the Roots” products apart: the highest organic quality, regional sourcing, transparency, and sustainability. The best local ingredients serve as the foundation for high-quality food—food that can be traced all the way back to the farm. This is unique worldwide. Consumers have a right to know who produced the products, where they come from, and how they are produced.

[av_dropcap1]Y[/av_dropcap1]ou helped develop two of the most successful organic brands in Austria and Europe. Pardon the question, but how did you ensure that one didn’t overshadow the other?

Lampert: There is no competition in the organic sector. Organic farming is about striving for the highest quality. We are not rivals, but always learning from one another.

[av_dropcap1]W[/av_dropcap1]hat actually drives your mission to develop products of exceptional quality that are produced in a sustainable and transparent manner?

Lampert: Organic farmingmust be linked to regionality and regional value creation. Only fair, cooperative, and transparent practices can pave the way for a future worth living. I want healthy food. And this can only come from agriculture that is sound in its approach, from healthy soils, from healthy animals, and from sustainably managed farming. I am convinced of this! That is what we are working toward, and that is also the reason why I founded Werner Lampert BeratungsGmbH.

Werner Lampert was involved in the development of the Hofer organic line Back to the Roots as well as REWE International AG’s private label Ja! Natürlich. Since the 1970s, this organic pioneer has been deeply involved in organic farming; in 1998, he founded Werner Lampert BeratungsGmbH and has since been working with a team of experts on the development, production, and marketing of sustainable, health-promoting, and mass-market organic products and brands.

About Christiane Mähr
Born in Feldkirch in 1978, I studied IWW in Innsbruck and Maastricht (Netherlands) a good two decades later and returned to Vorarlberg in 2003, where I have been living and writing ever since: first in marketing and communications, then in the PR industry, and since 2011 as a freelance journalist, copywriter, and communications consultant. My focus is on the health and medical sector (ranging from “Healthier Living” and “Health” to various trade and consumer magazines), but I also write for the online portal wirtschaftszeit.at and Biomagazin, among others. And what else? I love conjuring up delicious dishes from good ingredients, turning vegetables into soups, stews, and the like, or occasionally baking “sinfully sweet” cupcakes, cookies, and cakes. I also love New York City, my yoga mat, and my husband.
