Expertise ➔ Quality Standards

Standards that go beyond legal requirements.

Sustainable food requires quality criteria that go beyond minimum legal requirements. LAMPERT defines standards that combine environmental, social, and sensory quality—standards that are verifiable, communicable, and recognized by retailers and consumers alike. Our criteria are based on current research, are regularly updated, and are designed to be practical—from the producer to the shelf.

Our standards.

Three dimensions of sustainable quality.

Our quality standards encompass environmental, social, and sensory criteria—because true sustainability requires all three dimensions. Each dimension is defined by specific, measurable criteria and is regularly reviewed.

Soil, water, biodiversity, CO₂: We assess the environmental impact of every product throughout the entire supply chain—from production to the store shelf. Our criteria go beyond standard organic standards and take into account the entire environmental footprint.

Fair working conditions, fair pay, animal welfare: Our standards address the social aspects of sustainable food production. We evaluate how products are made—not just what they contain. This includes working conditions throughout the entire supply chain as well as animal welfare.

Taste, freshness, quality: Sustainability alone isn’t enough—a product must also deliver on taste to succeed at the point of sale and build long-term consumer loyalty. Our sensory criteria ensure that sustainability and enjoyment are not mutually exclusive.

Why set our own standards?

Legal requirements are not enough.

Organic labels and minimum legal standards provide an important foundation—but they are not enough to credibly demonstrate true sustainability. Consumers are becoming more critical, regulations are getting stricter, and retailers increasingly expect their suppliers to provide their own, more comprehensive proof of quality. At the same time, pressure is mounting due to the EU Green Claims Directive: sustainability claims without solid evidence will simply no longer be permitted in the future.

LAMPERT closes this gap with standards that are scientifically sound, work in practice, and cover the entire value chain—going far beyond what a single label can achieve.

The trial.

How our standards are developed.

Step 1

Scientific basis.

We begin with a comprehensive review of current research. We analyze environmental studies, social standards, and industry benchmarks to derive evidence-based criteria and metrics. A scientific foundation is the backbone of every LAMPERT standard.

Step 2

List of criteria.

Based on scientific findings, we formulate specific requirements for each product category. Each criterion is weighted, thresholds are defined, and testing methods are established. The result is a practical catalog that is equally understandable to suppliers, retailers, and auditors.

Step 3

Auditing.

Suppliers and products are systematically evaluated against a set of criteria. Any nonconformities are documented, corrective actions are agreed upon, and deadlines are set. Our auditing process is not a one-time check, but an ongoing process that ensures quality and drives improvements.

Step 4

Continuous monitoring.

Standards are not static documents. We regularly review and update our criteria based on new scientific findings, regulatory developments, and practical experience. This ensures that our standards are always up to date.
